Kolinec combines important evidence of regional history with a château park, a swimming and sports complex, and trails leading into the Šumava landscape. Here, culture, activity and various types of excursions come together: the Church of Saint James the Greater, Kolinec Jewish Cemetery, the educational trail in the château park and a yellow-marked hiking trail reaching into the area around Hartmanice.

Historical Buildings and Jewish Heritage

The Church of Saint James the Greater is an important historical monument in the Pošumaví region. It was built around the year 1200 as a Romanesque, longitudinally oriented, fortified single-nave tribune church. Its early date of construction and the unusual combination of Romanesque design and fortification make it a particularly distinctive historical feature of Kolinec. Its longitudinal layout and tribune also form part of its distinctive architectural appearance.

Kolinec Jewish Cemetery is located about 100 metres from the market square in the direction of Sušice. The cemetery has 130 surviving gravestones and is also protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Its location near the market square and its own collection of gravestones make it an independent place of Jewish remembrance. The cemetery thus complements Kolinec’s ecclesiastical history with another historical perspective.

Château Park, Educational Trail and Excursion Route

Kolinec Château Park includes the Filipínka spring. The educational trail in the château park features information panels about the Jewish cemetery and the Jewish community. The spring adds a specific natural feature to the park, while the trail connects the history of the cemetery and the Jewish community with time spent in the park.

A 15 km excursion route leads from Kolinec Château Park via Kolinec Jewish Cemetery and other stops back to Kolinec Château Park. As a circular route, it connects the starting and finishing points with several historical destinations. The yellow-marked hiking trail runs through Kolinec and continues to Hartmanice, into the Šumava Protected Landscape Area and Šumava National Park. The network of trails therefore ranges from a local circular route to a route that continues into protected landscapes.

Water, Sports and Different Day Plans

The Kolinec swimming and sports complex includes a children’s paddling pool as well as a large and a small swimming pool. The children’s paddling pool complements the two larger pools with a dedicated area for younger swimmers. The complex also includes a multi-purpose sports court, which requires a reservation for use. The facilities thus range from a paddling pool and two swimming pools to a court requiring reservations, complementing the historical and natural attractions with water-based activities and sports.
