Čachrov combines a rich cultural history with protected landscapes and clear routes into the surrounding area. Here, you can combine medieval traces, Baroque alterations, art, and railway history with a hike through nature. The church, museum, and gallery are located in Čachrov, while the nature reserve and hiking trails extend into the nearby surroundings.

Fortress, Church, and Historical Traces

The Tvrz Čachrov fortress was built between 1380 and 1390 by Vilém of Čachrov. Today, it is privately owned and not open to visitors. A Baroque château was built in its vicinity in the second half of the 18th century; it burned down in 1933.

Another cultural highlight is the Church of St. Wenceslas in Čachrov. It was originally a Gothic church from the first half of the 14th century and was remodeled in the Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century. Its furnishings include wall paintings dating from around 1360 and a vault fresco from 1759. Miloslav Vlk, who later became Archbishop of Prague and a cardinal, worked in the parish house. The church thus brings together Gothic architectural history, medieval wall painting, and Baroque design.

The Čachrov Railway Handcar Museum also makes its own distinctive contribution. Its most valuable exhibit is a handcar from 1851 that was used by railway inspectors. The museum thus adds a technical chapter of local history to the religious and aristocratic heritage.

Art by Prior Arrangement

The Domácí Galerie nad údolím was established in Čachrov at house number 4. It displays paintings, ceramic sculptures, jewelry, prints, and drawings. Visits are possible by prior arrangement. This information is particularly important for your planning because the gallery differs in this respect from the freely accessible sights in the town. The gallery therefore offers a different focus from the church and museum: various forms of art take center stage.

Protected Landscape and Trails

The Městišťské rokle nature reserve is located in the vicinity of Čachrov. It protects spring areas, peatlands, and the floodplains of the Jelenka and its tributaries. The landscape is therefore not merely a backdrop for excursions but is shaped by specific protected habitats. Spring areas, peatlands, and floodplains give the reserve different landscape features.

The Divoké rokle městišťské trail begins about 1 km beyond the settlement of Onen Svět in the municipality of Čachrov; parking is available at the starting point. In addition, a KČT Čachrov hiking route can be reached via Chřepice and Bradné. When planning, you can therefore choose between a trail with a clearly designated starting point and a route whose course connects Čachrov with Chřepice and Bradné. For reaching the trail, the starting point beyond Onen Svět is therefore the specific reference point.
