Osík: Stone Bridge, Statues and Chapels
Accommodation in Osík
Explore Osík through its distinctive cultural landmarks: the arched stone bridge over the Desinka, statues of saints from different periods, religious motifs in chapels and a monument in the village centre. There is also the Nízký lanový park Osík, with a clear two-person rule. Historical details and a shared activity thus appeal to different interests. If you are considering Osík as a place to stay, it helps to decide first which of these themes you want to shape your trip.
The Stone Bridge and Its Two Statues
The arched stone bridge over the Desinka is in the lower part of Osík, near Vesní rybník, and is a cultural monument. Two statues stand by the bridge, differing in size, date and attribution. Saint Anthony of Padua is 165 centimetres tall; his statue dates from the 18th century, and its artist is unknown. The 167-centimetre statue of Saint Wenceslas was made by J. Vašata and V. Kroupa in 1929.
Both figures are made of fine-grained sandstone, while their pedestals are made of coarse-grained sandstone. The statues therefore differ in height by two centimetres; their recorded dates of creation differ more significantly: for Anthony, the century is known, while for Wenceslas, both the year and the sculptors’ names are known. This combination of measurements, materials and dates offers a specific comparison if you are interested in sculpture and historical details.
Religious Motifs and Remembrance in the Village
A chapel with a statue of the Virgin Mary was restored in 2020, after about sixty years, through the initiative of a group of committed local residents. For local history, what matters is not only the religious motif but also the local initiative behind the restoration. A chapel is dedicated to Saint Hubert; a carving depicts the apparition of this saint. Together with the statues by the stone bridge, these represent different forms of religious art: outdoor sculpture and a carved motif.
The monument to the victims of the world war now stands in a park in the village centre, opposite the municipal office. It adds a dedicated place of remembrance to the religious and sculptural landmarks. Its location in the park, opposite the municipal office, clearly establishes its setting within the village centre.
Planned White Gallery and Low Ropes Course
The White Gallery was planned for the edge of Osík, in a scenic bend of a meandering stream. Its planned location in the stream landscape would have offered a different perspective on the village’s landmarks; the bridge and statues, by contrast, are defined by their historic design.
The Nízký lanový park Osík has 17 obstacles at heights of 0.5 to 1 metre. At every obstacle, two visitors must secure each other. This two-person rule makes coordination a key part of the activity. If you are planning to visit the park, please check its current operating and access arrangements in advance.
