Újezdec offers different points of interest, including Slaná louka u Újezdce, the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, and an archaeological jug from the Early Bronze Age. The municipality lists the protected area among the local attractions. This makes for a travel idea focused on experiencing the natural environment and local history side by side.

Slaná louka: a distinctive protected landscape

Slaná louka u Újezdce covers 1.3318 hectares and is a European Site of Community Importance in the Natura 2000 network (code CZ0210173). It lies on the eastern edge of Újezdec and partly within the built-up area. Here, the protected landscape and the village layout occupy the same location. The protected habitat is an inland salt meadow. Most of the area consists of water bodies, along with semi-natural dry grasslands and scrub formations on calcareous soils.

Slaná louka is one of the last remaining subhalophilous meadows in Central Bohemia. It is a refuge for several subhalophilous species that are now very rare in the surrounding landscape: Lotus tenuis, Melilotus dentatus, Juncus gerardii, and Carex distans. The protected area is characterized by more than its designation as a salt meadow: water bodies, dry grasslands, and scrub are also part of its landscape. For nature enthusiasts, its special appeal lies in this combination of different habitats and regionally rare plant species.

Chapel and earlier local history

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is a protected immovable cultural monument, registered under number ÚSKP 25094/2-3681. In the original settlement layout, it dominates the central area in the north; a pond is part of the settlement fabric in the south. The chapel in the north and the pond in the south thus provide a guide to the original north–south layout of the village.

An archaeological jug from Újezdec belongs to the Únětice culture of the Early Bronze Age. This means Újezdec brings together two distinct historical connections: a protected cultural monument within the settlement and an artefact from prehistory. If you are interested in local history, you can include both aspects in your travel plans as representing different periods.

Hiking, cycling, and the regional setting

Újezdec is one of the participating municipalities in the Labská stezka network in the Mělnicko-Kokořínsko tourism region. A red-marked hiking route runs near the area, and the Labská cycle route also passes close to Újezdec. Before setting out, check the current route alignment for your chosen trail. This lets you distinguish the area's regional setting from planning a specific hike or bike ride.

Újezdec as a destination and place to stay

If you are considering Újezdec as a place to stay, you can base your choice on two interests: the salt meadow and its plant life offer a connection with nature, while the chapel and the Bronze Age jug relate to local history. If you would like to focus on both, they provide a clear theme for your trip. When choosing a hotel, you can first decide whether the natural environment, cultural heritage, or a combination of the two best suits your travel plans.
