Natural Landscape Between the Vltava and Sázava

Krňany lies near the confluence of the Vltava and Sázava rivers. Here, the two rivers have shaped a dramatic landscape with steeply incised rocky banks. The municipality’s area is part of the Střed Čech Nature Park, combining distinctive river landscapes with protected natural areas. The municipality includes the smaller cadastral areas of Krňany, Třebsín and Teletín. Those who want to choose their stay based on the landscape, hiking opportunities and cultural discoveries will find several different points of interest here.

Protected Nature and Special Views

The Kobylí dráha Nature Reserve partially extends into the territory of the municipality of Krňany. It has the character of a gorge-like slope and is rich in many thermophilic plant species. Alongside the river landscape, this creates a distinct natural area: the landscape can be appreciated not only through its viewpoints, but also through its protected vegetation and geological formations.

Třebsín is part of the municipality of Krňany and at the same time a junction of the Posázavská Trail and touristically attractive routes in the central Vltava region. From Třebsín, a yellow-marked hiking trail leads to Smetana Lookout. The viewpoint is located above the Štěchovice Reservoir. From there, you can look across to the opposite bank with the Ztracená naděje tramping settlement. Smetana Lookout is named after Bedřich Smetana, who appreciated this place.

Village History and Monuments

The smaller localities also contribute to Krňany’s distinctive character. In Teletín, the listed chapel houses a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. Třebsín has a chapel with a small bell tower, which has been protected as a monument since 3 May 1958 and probably dates from the second half of the 18th century. Old timber-rafting paths are still visible in Krňany and are protected as monuments. They give the river landscape a historical dimension without limiting the village to a single excursion destination.

Another local speciality dates back to 1912. At that time, Rudolf Strimpl, manager of the Chlistov farm in Teletín, brought planting material for field strawberries from the USA to the Krňany area. Strawberry cultivation developed there as a result.

What Type of Stay Suits Krňany?

When looking for accommodation in Krňany, you can first decide what you want your stay to focus on: the landscape at the confluence of the Vltava and Sázava, the marked trail from Třebsín to Smetana Lookout, or the monuments and history of the localities. For an active day, the yellow-marked hiking trail is the main attraction. Chapels, protected timber-rafting paths and the history of the localities, on the other hand, provide a focus on cultural history.
